I am trying to help a family make a decision between these two devices and I have not had a lot of the experience with the mini merc. Dynamytes are difficult to program but are great once you've done that. The family trialed the mini merc and were impressed with its versatility and features. One feature they liked was that the object would enlarge when it scanned through them to make it easier for their child to see them.
