Can he learn signing? It seems like the "more" sign paired with "music," "book," "lights" and some customized sign for "cellophane" might be something to work on. He could also do "happy" and "sad," and maybe "my turn" and "your turn." Those might at least help him interact a little with people. The signs don't have to be exact; any approximation of a sign would work.
