I work with a 10 year old boy with autism and speech motor planning issues. He has mastered /s/ but I am having a really hard time getting him to voice for /z/. I've tried shaping a /z/ by starting with /s/ and telling him/modeling turning the voice on. I've tried humming and gradually turning that into a /z/ and I've tried vibration on the face to demonstrate the vibration of the vocal chords. I've tried working on /z/ in final syllables (i.e. "aaaaaaaahzzzzzz", but he drops the /z/. It's becoming really frustrating for the both of us and i would appreciate any advice. He responds well to visual/tactile input.
