Hello, I have a kid that has so much going on and I don't know what to focus on! I work in a private practice setting and I don't really have many people I can brainstorm with. He is almost 5 years old. He fronts the /s, z, ch, sh, t, d, j/, he can't produce an /l/, and reduces clusters. He does not use the tip of tongue and uses the middle of his tongue. He has an open mouth posture and his tongue hangs out of his mouth at rest. He has a tongue thrust with swallowing. I have very minimal knowledge on tongue thrusting, but his teeth are obviously already affected by the tongue position and swallow. He also sucks a "tag" at night. We've really only had success with the /sh/ and it seems like every week I find something new that he can't do! I'm having a hard time figuring out what should be our main focus.
My thoughts are that he's successful with the /sh/ so I want to keep working on that. I feel like I need to work on strengthing his use of the tongue tip for sounds. I also think the tongue at rest is really important. We've done a few tongue thrust swallowing exercises, but he's not getting it. Also his tongue is huge! It is long and wide.
Any advice???? Thanks in advance!
