I have a child with the same problem! When he pauses between the initial /s/ and the rest of the word he can produce them. Sometimes I find having him say /s/ pause /un/ and then /sun/ right after helps. I also find that a tape recorder works wonders. First I have him listen to my production vs. his. If he can identify they are different then I ask him to match my production. In /s/ clusters I find he deletes the /s/ and just needs some verbal reminding "I didn't hear your /s/." Unfortunately there is a lack of carryover at home with my student so progress has been slow.
