It took many months of ear training, visual aids, and imitation, but I found fixed that problem in one of my Kindergarten students. I referred to it as "bumping up." He had a good /s/, then let his tongue bump up before moving to the vowel. He learned to discriminate bump/no bump in my speech at the sound, then syllable and word levels. I used my hands as the roof of the mouth and tongue to show it bumping up or gently falling down. We also used a mirror for this purpose, but the hands visual worked best. Slowing the transition between /s/ and the vowel also helped. With lots of practice and reinforcers, he finally got it. Whew.
