I think you just need to be honest with the mother and let her know that her daughter's /r/ is not improving. If the mother thinks that her daughter's speech is getting better, then she could actually be contributing to her daughter's perception of the bad/good /r/. Have you looked into Pam Marshalla's stuff on /r/ therapy? It's really great, and it seems like my students have made the most progress with her techniques. It's also possible that maybe your speech student needs a break from speech therapy until she is more motivated to improve. Sometimes, after student have a bit of a break, the come back, and they do much much better. Good luck!
