I'm a 2nd year grad finishing up my educational internship. One of my students, a 4th grader, is not stimulable for /r/. My supervisor and I have tried every technique imaginable. We both feel it's a motivation issue. The student enjoys coming to speech, tries we ask, but doesn't truly care if she fixes her /r/ sound.
Her mother believes this child's speech is improving (I don't know why or how). What should I tell her mother when we meet for parent-teacher conferences??
