I had a student with this syndrome and found lots of good therapy ideas on sites devoted to cleft palate, such as www.widesmiles.org. Two things really helped my student:
1. occluding her nose with a nose clip (like for swimming) to force air through the oral cavity. Once she got the feel of this, she learned to be less nasal on her own.
2. Increasing overall muscle tension by having her stand up in therapy and to squeeze a stress ball. This helped her build up the oral pressure that she needed.
Years later, she still sounds rather nasal but is able to make all speech sounds fluently in conversation. When we started, she had mostly only open vowels.
Hope this helps!
