I have always thought that an auditory processing disorder can only be diagnosed by an audiologist, isn't that correct? I have the TAPS-R, but even if a child does not score well on this test, I was under the impression that I cannot diagnose this disorder. I would think it is pretty challenging deciphering between an attention issue (ADD/ADHD) and an auditory processing issue. Have many people referred to children to audiologists for testing? How do you know when to make that referral? Now, I have written goals for following multi-step directions and have numerous students right now that have difficulty following directions in the classroom. In the past, I have worked on strategies with students (eyes on teacher, quiet mouth/body, repetition of the direction, etc.) but was wondering how other people have worked on this goal with students. Thanks!
