I have a student who can touch her tongue to alveolar ridge for /n/ and /l/, but still backs /t/ and /d/ no matter what I've tried. Any ideas why this is? Its frustrating for both of us because she has tongue tip elevation in other sounds, but as soon as she says those sounds she backs again.
