one of my favorite groups, i used to work with some high schoolers myself.
you can adapt any game - i'm not crazy about the do your goal then take a turn method so i try to incorporate the game into the lessson. have a limited budget and like to spend it on real speech items and space so I try to be creative with the pieces from the game to use several ways.
Games
don't break the ice
- to set up you have to fill this blue frame with ice
- so i do category naming - vocab and earn the ice - makes group work easier cause while i'm asking one kid the others are trying to put the ice in the frame
don't spill the beans
- we count how long our sentences can be or i write out the sentence and have the student match the bean with the sentence so to kind of tap it out with the beans and then put it on the pot to play (use it to teach prepositions too)
Cariboo - found at walmart target
- game is meant to teach colors and numbers but i adapt to teach anything - artic, language, categories. ect.
Superduper
Grammar gumball
Wh- Bingo
Vocab Bingo
they are starting to learn how to play memory so can use any goals with this too
Secret square - not made anymore but search this site on how to make your own
Books
author Eric Carle Books - hungry caterpillar, ect
If you give a mouse a cookie, and others by same author (sorry don't remember)
classics - three little pigs, 3 billy goats gruff, ect.
good luck!
