You just look at the uvula. If it looks "forked" like it is split in two it is considered bifid. This is a classic characteristic of a submucosal cleft. The next and absolute necessary next step is a referral to an ENT for a medical diagnosis. The ENT will determine whether the cleft is large enough to require surgery. Some clefts are small and the student can learn to overcome.
