I currently do this 5 times a week for 45 min. sessions with approx. 15 kids per group. I use Sounds Abound in conjunction with things I come up with. I use the VA Dept. of Educ.website for phonemic awareness along with the cirriculum the K-teachers are doing (as a guide to know what they have knowledge of and what they haven't learned yet) to develop a program that goes from listening/attending to rhyming, all the way to blending and segmenting. I always do an intro, a book, and an activity that goes with the book. The Sounds Abound books are good for providing books and activities, however, I don't use them every week as they just do not supply enough to occupy 45 min. The kids love to do Rhyming Bingo, anything with cutting and glueing, etc. so I base my activities around things that will engage them as well as reiterate the concept we are learning.
