Interesting case! Yes, we can diagnose apraxia, but I have to warn you that apraxia assessments are very subjective. They are not going to be like the GFTA where you get the score and say they have an articulation delay. There is not one definitive characteristic that allows us to differentiate apraxia from phonological delays, although most will say it's the vowel errors. That's not true because almost every severe/phono child I have ever had has had vowel issues either. It's such a hard disorder to diagnose properly and a lot of people advocate for the inclusion of a neuro consult as you are talking about a motor planning issue and there might be signs of motor cortex damage. Not sure how true that is....
Anyway, what about breath support? Is it good? What kind of errors are happening later when he gets past 3-4 syllables? Are they the same errors you have always heard? Do they change?
I would give Moving Across Syllables a try. I have used it and it's tedious, but I have seen improvements with it. It's the only apraxia program I have used, so I cannot compare it to any others.
