I was very lucky to learn (from this website) all long time ago that the /sh/ is not produced by rounding the lips as many might think, but is actually produced by elevating the sides of the tongue (like a taco).
The tongue is also retacted into the oral cavity just slightly (so it does not make contact with the teach or alveolar ridge.) If the student does it correctly they should be able to produce the /sh/ sound even when they are smiling.
YOu can look up the "butterfly technigue". THis is where you teach the student that they fold up the butterfly wings and blow the air down the middle of their tongue.
If they are unable to do this you can:
1) Have them place a small dum-dum sucker ( or tongue depressor)on the middle of their tongue and then try to wrap the sides of their tongue around it. Then take the sucker out and keep their tongue on the same position. If it sound like and /s/ have them slide their tongue back just a little.
Give it a try...It really works! Once you teach it this way you will never go back. Good luck.
