Using a mirror to watch themselves, I have kids push their tongue all the way out to make a /th/ sound and then, while holding that sound, move their tongue slowly back into their mouth -- listening for it to change to an /s/ sound and then still going further backward until it turns into /sh/. It won't be a perfect /sh/ but it will be an approximation. After they are able to do that easily upon request, then I start having them round their lips to perfect the sound.
