Those are great suggestions!
DO you have the Rosetti or the Help Chart? Look these over to see the different language and cognitive skills that are expected in the 0-12 month areas. What have the children mastered? What are they not doing? These charts can help you brainstorm what to work on in therapy and how to write goals.
I worked with some students like this. Really low kids. We worked mainly on cause and effect...push the big mack button (more) and get more crackers. Those kinds of things. We really worked on the cognitive skills needed to communicate. If they don't have cause and effect you are not going to get communication.
We did respond to NOISE before respond to name. Some kiddos didn't even respond to a bell ringing...if they can't do that they are not going to clue into their name.
Pick a preferred item from a field of 2 or three
Follow routine of the classroom
