I use physical cues to actually push/hold a child's mouth into a resting position or I say "chomp your teeth" and model it.
When I pick the student up for speech, I cue him to "rest your mouth" while walking to speech or during turns in a game or any time I pass that child in the hallway. I laugh at how often I am in the hallway saying "rest your mouth" to various students, because I am a very talkative person and wonder how many people would like to tell me to rest my mouth!!
This has worked with several kids. Granted, it has taken up to a year to become a habituated position!
