I agree with the previous poster. Five year olds aren't necessarily that great at making up an original story from a picture. Some may be able to do that, but my thought is that it's a later-developing skill. I would also be interested to see if he can re-tell a story he knows well by looking at the pictures. Also, how does he do with relating an experience that he's gone through himself? Can he tell it back in order? Are his narratives relatively easy to follow?
