I am out of grad school about 2 years and am going to be doing my first private articulation evaluation. I have my C's and wanted to clarify the typical procedure. The mother noted he was 4 yrs old and has typical language skills only concerns with understanding his speech. I am only going to do the GFTA2 for now. I was thinking that I would do the GFTA as a structured analysis, then play a game with him to see how he produces sounds during spontaneous speech and then finish off by doing some stimulability. How does that sound?
My other question has to do with billing. I told the parents I would be able to provide them with a coded bill that they could submit to their insurance company. I am confused in this area. Do you code the bill with what you think the child might have based on information (ex tongue thrust, articulation disorder) or code the bill after the evaluation (ex, speech within normal limits)? Also when is the best time to give the parents the bill? SHould I do the evaluation, write the report at home and when I receive payment then send the coded bill with the evaluation to them?I am going to their home to conduct the evaluation and we do not live close, so this is the only time I will go. Any adivce is greatly appreciated.
