My son is 4.5yr and has typical cognitive and language skills. He currently has articulation difficulties with r, l, and th. I know that these sounds are considered age appropriate at this point. I have started the paperwork to get him evaluated through my districts CPSE. I'm very much on the fence as to how to handle this but have been told from numerous sources that sevices will be harder to come by once he enters kindergaten. So I feel as though I should put him through the formal evaluation w/cpse to ensure he either receives the services he is entitled to, or feel confident knowing I can--at least temporarily--be assured that he is on target for his age. Can anyone let me know what they think? If he demonstrates age appropriate language skills and age appropriate skills on social emotional, motor, educational, etc. will he get services through CPSE? Would he even get services for articulation even if his difficulties are age appropriate? If he doesnt get services what are the alternatives?
