If the child has an aug. comm device is he expected to be working on verbal speech? How advanced is the device? I would focus on having the child use the aug comm device during a variety of activities throughout the day. To make choices/requests, greet people, respond during class activities, etc. Even if its a simple device that you have to pre-record.
If he is expected to work on speech, you could start with imitation of vowels (I like long vowels) or early developing consonant sounds. These can be combined in CV syllables that are really short words (e.g., eat, bye). Or pick a few easy words to work on that would be highly functional for the child. Words that you could immediately reinforce with an item. Or social words like hi or bye. Do you have PT to consult with regarding posture? If so, they may be able to work on better positioning for breath support. I'm afraid I don't know much about actually working on breath support. Hope something in here helps.
