I'm not sure how much the overjet would be impacting /r/, maybe more likely for /l/. Maybe it's not the overjet at all, but just one of those good old "functional artic. disorders" with no clear etiology. I do know that even subtle differences in structure can cause a child to learn to produce sounds incorrectly and make it difficult to remediate. At any rate, I think I would definitely give the artic therapy a good try, but if you're "lost as to what to do with him" perhaps you've already been trying and he's not having much success. Have you thought about exploring community resources to look at the possibility of getting the family some assistance with orthodontia? I have no idea if the Lions or Kiwanis or whatever might be willing to take this on? Just a thought . . . Maybe someone else has an idea.
