An idea for working on direction words: barrier games where the student hears directions for drawing a simple design; therapist or another student is describing the design. Students get opportunities to describe the design for the therapist and others in the group to draw.
Comparisons of the actual pictured design and student output help with developing awareness of the various words needed for placement, orientation, size, order, spacing, etc. as necessary for the design.
You can make a set of designs using circles, squares, triangles, various sizes, various colors, various numbers of objects in the design, and various placements of the design on the paper, or placements of the objects in relation to one another.
This is a great activity for using scratch paper. More that one person can respond or participate at a time, and the therapist can fairly easily control the parameters for the level of difficulty.
