I would definitely use Cycles with this child and the factors you mentioned do not necessarily indicate apraxia as most children with phonological delays exhibit the same problems. Once you correct the primary patterns, those problems will fix themselves. You will be amazed. Too many people are too quick to jump on the apraxia bandwagon when that disorder is a lot more rare than people think. It doesn't matter if velars are difficult. They are for most phono. kids. Skip them. Also, don't try to elicit them in isolation, use a short vowel and put /k/ on the end. It works better. You can try to stimulate that at the end of every session as you work on something else.. You are going to spend the majority of your time on s-blends. You can also do /f/ if the child needs it. There is not age cut-off for using this approach. I was using it with a 15 year old with Down's syndrome and he was having success with it (then I moved).
