I am a new SLP and have a 4 1/2-year old who seems to be a candidate for the cycles approach: uses fronting, stopping, gliding, cluster reduction. He has a hx of middle ear infections. However, his previous therapist also suspects apraxia due to some inconsistent substitution errors, vowel errors, and trouble stabilizing /k/in isolation. Is it wrong to initiate the cycles approach when he has such variable success with velars in isolation? Also, is there an age cut-off for this approach? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
