I am currently seeing a 4 year old little guy who demonstrates severe prolongations during connected speech. He produces 4-5 prolongations per utterance.
My goal has been to help him learn to "feel" the prolongations so that he can modify his speech, but he has not been able to identify "bumpy speech" in his own speech (he can identify smooth vs. bumpy in my speech when creating pseudo stutters). I have tried auditory feedback and he continues to exhibit difficulty identifying the prolongations.
The only thing that has improved his fluency so far is finger tapping (he taps his finger to create a beat and help slow his speech). I am worried about this technique because I have essentially created a secondary behavior! Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!!
