As a Cal Poly fan I knew settling for field goals were going to bite their ass. Anytime an FCS team upsets and FBS team, the FCS team must capitalize on most opportunities and the Mustangs clearly didn't do that.
What's up with the SJSU kicker kicking the ball out of bounds twice, giving CP great field position? Kudos to the Spartan defense for stiffening to overcome the field position. I also wonder about the onside kick? I guess the lackluster Cal Poly offense struck little fear from the SJSU coaching staff.
Without a doubt the play of the game was when the CP QB mishandled the snap on the two yard line on one of the Mustangs better drives. One can argue the Spartan defensive lineman encroached on that play, but I guess if it aint called, it aint a penalty.
I was most impressed with the Spartan running backs http://www.calhisports.com/2013/01/18/all-state-football-sophomores/
and the Spartan receivers.
All in all I came away from the game not being terribly impressed with either squad. Both teams face tough competition this week, the Spartans at Texas and the Mustangs at Northern Iowa. Good luck in Austin.
