Well, after yesterday's disappointment, I've had time think. I find that the problem for the Spartans isn't the offense, it's the defense. It's not the players either. It's the scheme. The Spartans aren't ready to present a 3-man front. They did okay against Sanford and for the most part against Minnesota on first and second down. The just can't get off the field on 3rd down. I played a lot of football and always on teams that always had smaller personnel than our opponents. The D Coordinator had to be creative. Kenwick Thompson wants to see his guys go toe-to-toe against people who are just overpowering SJSUs' defense. Really? The Spartans are a couple of years of good recruiting to be able to match up man-per-man. I'm not taking anything away from the young men. I know they want to compete, but in a situation like this the only thing that is going to get them through is creative coaching. I haven't seen it both on offense and defense. We can only hope that Caragher does something about it before he wastes this season.
