Phil...Fine and dandy...It takes volunteers to make that happen...Why don't you start soliciting Foundation donations down in the Southland...SJS has a huge alumni base in SoCal...Maybe you could put together a group down there to help raise $$$$...

: I also have to reluctantly agree with this
: article. Fresno sells a consistent 35,000
: seats in bad years and 42,000 in good years.
: This year they have a good chance at
: averaging 40,000 with their schedule if they
: have a good season, which they should. They
: also raise a majority of their scholarship
: allotments each year so they don't have to
: dip into the general athletics-operating
: fund, as we have to do. Add to that
: parking, concessions, increased interest
: from advertisers wanting to capitalize on
: those fans and the list goes on. In hoops,
: 5,000 fans at the men’s games would probably
: take care of the men’s and women’s budgets
: each season. I know, our budget is balanced
: and their in the red, we here that all the
: time. The central valley is in much worse
: shape as far as unemployment and economy in
: general yet they will have a budget over a
: third more then ours with smaller
: contributions from the students and body bag
: games. Our way of doing things is getting
: unsustainable very fast and if funding
: doesn't pick up soon in all phases including
: more student fees, tripling the SF and QBC,
: at least doubling the season ticket base for
: football and basketball and huge increases
: in corporate sponsorship, I'm afraid this
: Fresno homer's prediction will come true. I
: hope Bowen has a plan in place. He needs to
: change something now.
:
: Three things need a change. One being season
: ticket sales, there has not been one change
: in the ticket sales since I started going to
: games in '78. They send out renewals later
: in the spring / early summer then any other
: team that I know of with no marketing to
: anyone but the current 2000 or however many
: season ticket holders we already have
: committed. Season ticket renewals should
: start coming out in March or early April
: with incentives to renew early to both save
: your seats and add in any of a number of
: other benefits. The next is SF fund raising
: / membership drive. As far back as I can
: remember, it has always been done the same
: way. A group of volunteers takes six to
: eight weeks to call the current SF members
: to sell them on renewing or increasing their
: pledge. The SF will not grow like that. It
: is not up to the dedicated volunteers to
: recruit new people to help out, it is up to
: the administration to do that in my opinion
: especially because it is the most important
: part of the athletic budget, scholarships. I
: don't fault the volunteers, they are not
: professional marketers or sales people, and
: it is not up to them to put a system in
: place to maximize results, that falls on Mr.
: Bowen or his appointed director, they are
: the professionals yet every year, the same
: thing. I know many tat don’t get calls at
: all and they are season ticket holders or
: former season ticket holders. Lastly,
: community outreach, Bowen and staff should
: be at every community service club, city
: hall, not only San Jose’s but also all of
: Santa Clara County including the county
: offices, convention and visitors’ bureau and
: all of the others. There should be booths at
: the fairs, festivals, and I can go on and on
: but you get the point. The point is, with
: everything good that they have done, these
: three things as well as many others have not
: changed for many administrations and its
: time to try some new bold creative steps to
: bring us to the next level.
