Baseball is truly upon us. The Spartans open their conference schedule in Hawaii on the 3rd of April which is a little less than two weeks away. The WCC starts not this weekend but the next and the Pac10 starts this weekend with a good local pairing of Cal vs Stanford. The SEC (just to give an idea what’s going on nationally) is already underway with 3 game series already in the books. Why does the SEC start so early compared to the WAC? It’s not the weather. I think it’s due to the pure size (member schools) of the conference. The SEC is huge with two good sized divisions and the WAC is quite small with only 7 members.
Nevada has an interesting matchup this weekend as does NMSU. Nevada travels to #10 UC Irvine that should be a very stern test of the Wolf Pack and they will find out if they are to be a player this year while USF visits NMSU for a three game series which should provide some comparison with common foes for the Spartans.
