SacState (7-8) 6 - USF (8-11) 5
It took 11 innings for the Hornets to do what the Spartans couldn’t and that was beat the Dons. Pretty even game with no outstanding performances by either team other than the Dons’ catcher, Ryan Lipkin, getting four RBIs. To me the only other thing of note is that SacState’s pitching was at least fair in this game with no one being hammered. All of this in front of 94 people. Almost had that at a JV high school game yesterday.
NMSU (17-2) 20 - Sul Ross (2-22) 3
What I said about this matchup I said yesterday. This series is a serious mismatch and I’ll leave it at that. No learning going on here.
LaTech (10-5) 10 - Arkansas LR (7-10) 9
Another game that went 11 innings. Fourteen hits by both teams so this one was probably entertaining to most except the purists who like pitching to dominate. Need both to have a game of any consequence. Anyway, the big freshman, Alex Williams, continues his hitting ways by going 3 for 4 and is likely to be hard to miss when the Bulldogs come to town next month. Casey Jones was the starter for Tech but didn’t get the win in going 5 innings. Just like the name. Over 800 watched this game and that was a pretty good increase over previous games.
SJS (12-3) 9 - Chicago State (1-16) 2
An interesting note to this game was that Chicago’s starter went 6 innings giving up 6 runs and all 10 of the Spartans’ hits. That means the next three were scored without benefit of a hit. Think of ways that could be done; walks, errors, steals, sacrifices. Ryan Shopshire went 7 innings getting the win by striking out 9 and walking only two. 400 diehard fans were there.
