Another real spirited practice. Watched the practice again with my friend, a former SJS player, coach and O-line coach and head coach, for 40 years at high school, D-1 and D2 levels. I don't want to bag on the bodies of our o-linemen anymore, but both of us would sure like to see them get their pad level down.
Marquis Avery is so talented it is almost illegal. We are all in for an unbelievable treat this next two years. He ran an under route today that made his man-to-man defender almost look like a fool. Marquis made himself so open and then juked the dude out of his jock once he got the ball, the defender just wanted to get off of the field and quick. That was the good part, now here is the bad part. During the play and after the play, Marquis got on the defender real bad vocally, even using the N-word, and screaming at him. Ken Margerum just cringed and shook his head on the sideline. I saw him take Marquis aside later and talk to him privately. Marquis is a SUPER spirited player and I love that, but he goes too far sometimes. He is well-meaning, but he could tone it down.
Muldrow made a real nice catch on a deep route over the middle, beating the defender, and maintaining real great concentration. Muldrow was very well-covered during the play, but just went up and pulled down the ball.
Patrick Perry looks real good and looks to be in fantastic shape. I am sooooo happy for him, as he is as fine of young man that you could ever meet. He is not even wearing a knee brace, so his leg must be doing well.
I have some other observations, but I will cut it off here for now and put up the rest later, as this is getting too long. Reed looked pretty sharp today, especially on his short and medium routes. He tends to over-throw on his long routes.
