Scott: I was at last night's game and would be at the DH but I have a previous commitment.
Bozar: I get to as many SJ Giants games as I can. This year will be a great chance to see some future stars at a reasonable price.

: Geez, Nordo. I could not agree more. I am
: going to an SJS baseball double-header
: today, and honestly, the game day experience
: is as good if not better than the Major
: League games I have gone to. Plus, it costs
: something like $5.00. College sports are an
: incredible bargain.

: Like housing prices, stocks, and banker
: bonuses, a "correction" is coming
: to sports salaries.
:
: I've got to say, welcome a retreat on costs.
: Taking a family to a Major League game could
: easily cost $200 when you count parking,
: food, etc. The NFL, NHL and NBA would be
: even more.
:
: I've adjusted by going to more San Jose
: State games. It's more affordable, the level
: of play is high, and the players are
: competitive.

: Let's take it a step further:
:
: Who pays the salaries? We do..... the fans.
: We buy the tickets, fill the stadiums, pay
: for parking, buy concessions, buy products
: endorsed by athletes, and then complain
: about all the money they make. In our
: thirst to be entertained by others we have a
: simple supply - demand situation. The NBA,
: IMO, with a coupple exceptions, has gotten
: progressively worse over the past 30 years.
: Shooting percentages seem low, defense is a
: thinkg of the past (couple exceptions), and
: the coaches seem to be personality
: organizers more than anything else. I'll
: take a pro-rated credit for buying that
: garbage. I have a very hard time sitting
: through a whole NBA game these days.

: My feeling is that these teams have put
: themselves into this position. The
: exhorbitant salaries that they pay the
: players is outlandish. Then when there is
: an economic downturn, they cry poormouth.
: These franchises are worth a fortune and
: keep going up. Every franchise sells for
: multiple times what the selling owner paid
: for it. There is not a single owner out
: there that is destitute.

: The other day I heard that many teams in the
: NBA were experiencing serious financial
: difficulties. This seems amazing to me when
: you hear about so stories of excess at least
: by individuals with Sprewell leading the
: way. I didn't believe it so I did a little
: checking and here's what I found. I know
: this has nothing to do with the Spartans but
: the NBA (I thought) is well-managed by Stern
: and the locals (Warriors) are at least doing
: well in attendance and money issues, but if
: teams start going out of business (it is
: possible) then how will this ultimately
: affect college basketball? I certainly don't
: know but it is disturbing. I found this
: partial post on another bulletin board:
:
: According to a variety of sources, the
: following teams are experiencing serious
: drops on attendance: Washington, Los Angeles
: (Clippers), Sacramento, Philadelphia,
: Charlotte.
:
: The following teams are suffering severe
: operating losses: Denver, Dallas, Oklahoma
: City, Indiana, Minnesota.
:
: And the following teams have owners with
: financial problems: Phoenix, New Jersey,
: Sacramento, Memphis, Charlotte.
