Army is coached by Dick Tomey's former UofA DC, and recent Cal Poly head coach Rich Ellerson whose father and older brother attended and played (older brother) for Army. Ellerson took most of his Cal Poly staff with him to West Point, thus the familiarity with west coast recruits. But unlike West Point, "Sparta" no longer requires military service after graduation.

: IMO I always want to SJSU to win.
: The bigger picture for the program
: is keeping the APR up and the NCAA
: from imposing sanctions. My opinion of Coach
: Tomey was already high in the character
: department and now I really like him.
:
: Not a man crush either

: With the loss of Bellarmine QB Austyn
: Carta-Samuels to Wyoming, new QB names are
: emerging to SJSU's list of prospects. It
: appears that the SJSU staff really wants to
: sign a second QB to go along with Dasmen
: Stewert, who is expected to sign with the
: Spartans next week. The latest name to
: emerge is Miles Freeman (6-1 / 190) from
: Luther Burbank HS in Sacramento. While
: Freeman's passing stats are not that
: impressive (QB rating of 91.0), his rushing
: stat's are eye popping for a QB. He has an
: offer from Army already on the table, so
: grades should not be an issue.
:
: Freeman is now the fourth SJSU prospect that
: has been offered by Army. Dasmen Stewert,
: Bijon Samoodi, and Jason Simpson are the
: other three. This tells us that Tomey is
: interested in two things, players with
: character, and good GPA's.
:
: Freeman, who was named Offensive Player Of
: the Year for the Metro Conference in 2008,
: could also play Defensive Back, rather than
: QB, at the collegiate level.
