I believe both Nordo and Don are correct. Kassing is leaving SJSU sthletics in better shape than it has been in years. Our "ace in the hole" is the Chancellor (Charles Reed) who supports athletics and wants all three CSU schools with D1A programs to provide similar support for those programs (he likens us to SDSU). The final decision on Kassings's replacement will be his and, for us, that's a very good thing.
Having said that, it is common for new presidents to bring in their own people. When Kassing took the presidency he removed the academic provost, the AD and the head football coach. When Caret took the presidency he brought in his own Provost, AD and head football coach. The same with Gail Fullerton. Presidents generally want their own people who have their allegiance and loyalty to the presidents that hire them and share the new president's vision. In spite of that, I do not believe there is any way in hell that the new president will replace Tomey. He/she will not be that unmindful of public sentiment. I have a strong feeling that Bowen, too, will not be placed on the block. However, it was not a coincidence that he looked seriously at the LSU job (besides the fact that it is a real "plum"). A new president on the horizon does bring a degree of uncertainty. We'll see but, I believe, we are safe.

: That's about the most pessimistic reading of
: that article that you could take, Don.
:
: I guess I'm looking at Kassing leaving the
: football program in the best shape its been
: in years. Kassing laid the foundation for
: success. That doesn't mean there aren't
: challenges or won't be challenges in the
: future. And Bowen will leave some day. And
: Tomey will retire some day. But you know,
: Knute Rockne left and Notre Dame still
: played football.

: Bowen does not sound confident the new
: regime
: will continue the fight. I can understand
: that, but it would have been nice if there
: was something in their statements that they
: looked forward to continuing what Kassing
: and Co. built.
:
: It now wouldn't surprise me if Bowen were
: soon gone.
