Here is my problem with athletically talented student athletes that show character flaws. They will "always" burn you in the end. I used to be an advocate for giving these players a second chance. Veteran AD's warned me against that practice and they proved, invariably, to be right. At a key point this player will "blow up" and hurt the school and team. This particular player attacked a referee. Let's not excuse that. It was so serious that the CCS took away overe a year of eligibility. They do not do that lightly. It was serious. As to Indiana, coaches routinely deny transfer to athletes. SJSU does it all the time. For a coach to call campus police meant this was serious. Coaches are, generally, not wusses. Most never have to call campus police in their entire careers and they do these denials every season. This was serious. Let's not make excuses. This player will, in the long run, hurt us. I would be very surprised if he entered a four year school and finished his studies and graduated in anything like on time.
