On paper, Jon Whitmore seems to be head and shoulders above the other two. His experience and accomplishments are impressive and he seems to understand and support the role of athletics. His impact in that area has been substantial. He also emphasizes increased involvement of non-whites (can't use the term minority any more in California since we have no majority). That fits the university's goals very well. In spite of his white hair he may not be that old since he has teenage children. Questions are begged due to his resignation from TT and stated desire to return to teaching. Why would he desire the classroom at Texas Tech and return to a university professorship at San Jose State? There is more to this story. Luckily, for all the candidates the price of housing in the south bay is no longer an issue. The Alumni purchased a beautiful home in the Rose Garden for our presidents.
