I've got a larger photo of that same shot. Note the cut in the left foreground behind the goal post. That was for the team to enter the stadium from the Field house. So the view is looking south. Spartan Stadium had two press boxes in the early sixties, so it's easy to see how this photo can be confusing.
What are we doing to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of Spartan Stadium this fall? Green Bay's Lambeau Field's 50th was honored with emblems on the Packer uniforms. Likewise the 75th anniversary of the SEC jumped the gun by having all schools wear emblems on their uniforms in 2007.
