Utah State: Aggies set to name athletic director

LOGAN - Utah State's search for a new athletic director could end as soon as Friday, when the school's Board of Regents holds a regularly scheduled meeting.
A source confirmed Wednesday that the job search has entered its final stages and University of Washington senior associate athletic director for advancement Scott Barnes continues as one of the frontrunners.
Boise State senior associate athletic director Curt Epsey is another candidate who has received serious consideration for the job.
Barnes has been at Washington, a member of the Pac-10, since 2005. Previously, he was the athletic director at Eastern Washington for six years.
At Washington, the 45-year-old Barnes has been responsible for all external relations for the athletic department, with an emphasis on fund-raising, marketing, corporate sponsorships, ticket sales and multimedia management.
At the time of his hiring, then-Washington athletic director Todd Turner said, "Scott is one of the most talented and respected athletic directors in the nation. . . . He brings an incredible array of experience and talents to the Husky athletic staff, the most important of which are his character, personal values and leadership skills."
At Eastern Washington, Barnes ran an athletic department that included 14 programs. He hired six coaches during his tenure at EWU, and four of them eventually earned Big Sky Coach of the Year honors.
Barnes has also served as the athletic director at Humbolt (Calif.) State and an assistant athletic director at Iowa State, the University of Pacific and the University of San Diego.
A native of Spokane, Wash., Barnes is a graduate of Fresno State, He played basketball for the Bulldogs and served as the general manager of the Fresno Flames of the World Basketball League during the 1988-89 season.
