For the most part, I agree with you about too much legislation and there being rules on the books. The problem lays in the "enforcement" of them. I will never go back to one of the stadiums in our conference because of the drunken boors who were around the SJSU fans and the problem was that Security would NOT do anything about them even after they were asked to step it. So, I have no problem with banning beer at the football stadiums.

: This issue as is many other issues should come
: down to personal responsibility and we need
: to stop legislating these rules because of a
: few people that won’t take that personal
: responsibility. There are already laws on
: the books regarding public intoxication,
: assault, drinking age etc… just enforce
: those laws and all will be good. I’m not a
: political person but I am starting to get
: sick and tired of our lawmakers and other
: officials making some of these rules because
: a hand full of idiots can’t live by these
: rules. Personally, I rarely buy a beer in
: the stadium or if I do, it is right when I
: get in, because I usually drive home to So
: Cal right after the game is over. I would
: like to have that choice however. It will be
: a moot point next season.

: Let's see this is a football game. It is
: not
: a drinking party; it is supposed to be where
: you watch guys in tight pants run around the
: field with a pigskin; not drink yourself
: into a stupor and start fights. I vote for
: the ban on the beer. I've been at their
: stadium and seen some of their fans and the
: ban might be the best thing that happened to
: them.
:
: You want to drink - do it on your on time
: and turf but don't subject the fans that are
: there to watch the game with your poor
: behavior.

: UNR mulls banning beer at football games
: LENITA POWERS
: RENO GAZETTE-JOURNAL
: 2/27/2008
:
: University of Nevada, Reno administrators
: are expected to decide next month whether to
: ban the sale of beer at football games, a
: prospect that has prompted one student
: leader to launch a Facebook group to fight
: it.
:
: President Milton Glick said a decision on
: the beer ban will be made within three weeks
: in order to include that information in
: mailers sent to potential season-ticket
: holders in case it would influence their
: decisions to buy tickets.
:
: "We are discussing the pros and cons of
: selling beer at the stadium," Glick
: said. "This is a question which has no
: simplistic answer. Good people can disagree
: on this issue, but we think we need to make
: a decision."
:
: On the plus side is the $75,000 a year beer
: sales generate for the athletic department,
: but Glick said the negative side is fights
: have broken out in past seasons among
: alcohol-fueled fans.
:
: "The impetus behind looking at this
: issue was how to make football games more of
: a fan-friendly environment and more of a
: family-friendly environment," he said.
:
: If there is a prohibition on beer sales, the
: ban would apply only to the stadium, not to
: tailgating, "even though you and I know
: there is a lot more drinking at tailgates
: than in the stadium," Glick said.
:
: That's one reason students said the ban is
: unreasonable.
:
: Greg Green, a member of the Associated
: Students of the University of Nevada, said
: the university responded more than a year
: ago to fights among fans by limiting sales
: to one beer per person so they can't buy
: more than one beer at a time, and ending
: beer sales at half-time.
:
: "It's a more controlled environment at
: the games than if people feel they have to
: consume it off campus, which could create
: pre-game drinking and a more dangerous
: situation with people drinking and driving
: to the games," said Green, speaker of
: the student Senate.
:
: Facebook group
:
: Green started a Facebook group called
: "Keep Beer at Nevada Football
: Games" because he felt students weren't
: being made aware of the possible ban.
:
: It has information for students who want to
: let UNR's administration know how they feel
: about the possible ban on alcohol, Green
: said. It also has a link to a survey UNR is
: conducting on the Internet about fans'
: overall thoughts of the football games at
: Mackay Stadium, asking about everything from
: bathroom facilities to the cost of tickets,
: plus how they would view stopping the sale
: of beer.
:
: The questionnaire on surveymonkey.com is
: asking season ticket holders and Wolf Pack
: supporters to respond to the survey through
: Saturday.
:
: "I think the survey is being conducted
: to legitimize (UNR's) plan to ban
: alcohol," said Green, a 28-year-old
: electrical engineering student.
:
: He said he started the Facebook group to
: give students and alumni a chance to take
: the survey, so their voices can be heard.
:
: "I started it last Friday, and already,
: there are over 600 members," Green
: said.
:
: Glick said the Reno campus is in the
: minority of institutions that sell beer at
: games, with none of the Big Ten or Pacific
: 10 serving alcohol in their stadiums, except
: the University of California, Los Angeles,
: which plays in a county-owned arena.
:
: "Probably only 10 or 15 percent of
: schools sell alcohol in their
: stadiums," Glick said.
:
: The ban on beer would not include UNR
: basketball games, he said.
:
: "This is not an issue of whether
: alcohol is good or bad, but an issue of how
: do we improve the climate in our stadium,
: because we don't have a problem at our
: basketball games," Glick said. "We
: do have problems at our football games, and
: we want those games to be something families
: can come and enjoy."
:
: Green said it's also an issue of the rights
: of students and alumni who are 21 and older
: to decide if they would like to enjoy a beer
: under the restraints already imposed to
: limit consumption at the football games.
:
: "Yes, we can enjoy the game without
: alcohol, but I believe it is an option, and
: I think that option should be
: available," Green said. "I think
: it's a personal freedom issue, and it also
: generates a great deal of funds for campus
: organizations from the sales."
