If anything, he deserves more scorn and ridicule than he has already gotten. His "social consciousness," as you call it, almost sundered the football program. By every estimation, the man was far more interested in appearances than he was in doing his job.
San Jose State University has been paying out the nose for the incompetence of His Literateness for the last three years.
IMHO, from the viewpoint of an SJSU partisan, the man cannot be spoken of too harshly.
And by the way - if he had a "good heart" then he wouldn't have shivved SJSU in the back every chance he got after he left.
