Among the coaches I talked to on Wednesday was Mike Machado at Valley Christian. Machado had some great comments about Burns and Carrillo.
He feels Burns could end up playing receiver at San Jose State, though he is being recruited as a safety, because of his great hands and ability to run crisp routes. Machado also said Burns earned respect by his unwillingness to miss any game or practice despite being hampered by an ankle injury most of the season.
“Tanner was our field general,” Machado said. “Tanner’s ability to anticipate plays gave him a jump on everything.”
Carrillo impressed as a big, physical cornerback who will most likely play strong safety or linebacker at San Jose State. He proved himself as a playmaker for Valley Christian, whether returning kicks or making interceptions.
“Daniel is a big-play football player,” Machado said. “He’s a guy that can make plays that can change games.”
