Los Altos High School / Hacienda Heights, CA
ESPN Evaluation:
“Rodriguez possess good size and flashes upside at both tight end and defensive end. He is thickly-built and does not have much room for continued physical development. Shows soft hands and adequate receiving skills for a tight end with his bulk. Plucks the ball well in stride and adjusts nicely to the difficult throw. Shows similar concentration in traffic and is not afraid to utilize his large body to shield defenders and absorb the big hit. Excels on intermediate drag routes and can deceptively slip behind linebackers and create separation. Will dip the shoulder after the catch and drag the pile; keeps his feet driving until the whistle blows. While a physical prospect, his lack of fluidity is a concern. He flashes difficulty working angle blocks and adjusting to moving targets at the next level. Release tends to be high and his routes are often rounded without sharp in and out cuts. Not much of a speed or elusive threat after the catch; will move the chains at the next level with short-to-intermediate possession grabs. Shows some raw skill and ability at defensive end which adds to his upside. Leverage and lack bend off the edge are his main issues, but he plays with a good motor and pursues until the whistle blows. Should provide a team with good versatility to take snaps on both sides of the ball and provide special teams depth.”
