Peyton Thompson

6-0 / 165
Granite Bay HS / Granite Bay, CA
ESPN Evaluation:
“Thompson is a slashing runner on offense and a perimeter attacking defender on defense. He possesses adequate height with a slightly-built frame that will need to fill out to contribute on either side of the ball at the next level. On offense, he is a slashing runner who likes to bounce it outside with his adequate lateral quickness and cut it back with good vision and a decent straight-line burst. Shows adequate fluidity eluding defenders to daylight and possesses competitive straight-line speed. Hands out of the backfield are his best asset. Plucks the ball smoothly in stride and shows good arm extension adjusting to the difficult throw. At defensive back, he is at his best attacking on the perimeter and making plays underneath him. Our main concern at this time is his lack of range in zone coverage and recovery speed and hips in man. As a runner, he offers little production after contact and we have concerns that he lack the lateral quickness to bounce it outside at the next level with faster pursuing defenders. Lack of top-end speed and an extra gear will make it tough to transition to the next level as an offensive skill player. Needs to continue bulking up his frame and become more physical if positioned as a rover or strong safety.”
