You missed a good one. 83-81 NMSU. Aggies roared out to an 18 point lead early and it looked like a blowout. Gibson was hitting shots from the corner and their big men ruled the inside all night. The second half was a different story as the Spartans got their intensive game going. Pierce played a strong game in scoring 18 points. Hill scored 14 (I think) and Wright scored in double figures also. Wright was also outstanding on the boards with 12 as did Oakes. Wright just is not afraid to mix it up inside. He's an amazing guy. Oakes had a double double but he as well as Webster fouled out when the Spartans needed them the most. Caballero looked thoroughly intimidated the whole time he was in and was ineffective. Again, the Aggies bigs did a good job inside. Spartans won the battle of the boards by one 40 to 39 or something like that. Turnovers were close also but the Aggies had many more assists. The game came down to the last 10 seconds. Thomas scored from underneath to tie it at 81 with 7 seconds remaining. One of their guards (I forget who) scored a little baseline jumper with 1.9 left and Thomas took a 35 foot shot that bounced twice before rimming out. Too bad, the place would have gone crazy. It was a pretty good madhouse the last 10 minutes as the Spartans finally caught up and then it was back and forth until the end.
NMSU is good. A bit undisciplined so I like Nevada a bit more at this point. I wonder what USU will look like? Pope is a good player. Built strong and appears calm at all times. Didn't force any shots; only scored 5 (or so). Don't know if he can handle the ball or what his game is; they didn't really go to him. They went to their big guys and when the Spartans collapsed, they'd kick it out to Gibson in the corner for 3's or shorter. That was shut down a bit in the second half but the Spartans had no answer defensively for their big guys; Passos especially. I don't know how Graham would have made a difference in this game.
Their were about 2,000 people their and it took until the second half of the second half for things to start rockin'. It was a fun game after that.
I guess that's all.
