I agree Phil. What does it take to gather a crowd? Not much, I'm sure in the old days the coaches wives served punch. Why not let the Spartan Squad pick the campus location?

: I for one do follow the budget mess closely
: and there may be something to what you are
: saying but...
:
: What does it cost to have the coaches’ show
: up with some video on the players and
: possibly a couple of the local players, the
: cheer squad and pep band and the mascot? The
: SF could set up a booth to sell memberships;
: the ticket office could give out info or
: better yet, sell season tickets as well as
: remaining hoop tickets and baseball. Spartan
: squad could have a table setup for
: membership as well as the alumni
: association. It could be on campus like at
: the EC and sell the food and drinks. It's
: not a huge deal not having it, I just think
: it is a missed opportunity to continue to do
: something about marketing football and
: Spartan Athletics in general and it makes us
: look small time to our fellow WAC members as
: well.

: Do you guys read anything but the sports
: page?
: This just in: California has a $14 billion
: dollar budget deficit!!! I'm sure the word
: has gone out from the Guv's office that
: everyone needs to 'STOP ALL DISCRETIONARY
: SPENDING' TIL FURTHER NOTICE. A signing
: party for the football program is the
: epitome of "discretionary"
: spending. Everyone is tightening their
: belts in anticipation of deep
: across-the-board budget cuts.
:
: The cxl of the signing party is probably a
: pragmatic move by Bowen to insure that
: finite resources (money) go to the areas
: most in need.
:
: That's my take.
