This kid has supposedly made mention of SJSU and also supposedly visited campus last weekend. His choices for his next college destination are eclectic to say the least. It seems he likes Akron, likes Kentucky (how divergent is that?)
--- it appears he likes whoever he visited last. He didn't play his first year out of HS and is coach by Gene Murphy, who coached Cal State Fullerton when that school had a D-1 program.
"Marquis Avery, a 6-foot-4, 195-pound receiver from Fullerton Community College, finally got a conversation that he had been waiting to have. "I didn't think I was going to ever hear from Kentucky," he said. "They went awhile before I got a chance to talk to them. A couple of weeks ago, Coach (Steve) Ortmayer came out and sat down with my coach and me.
"He was real truthful with me, which I really appreciate. He told me that they were going after a kid there in Lexington named Boyd. I understood that. But if Boyd doesn't come, he said they are going to come for me, full bore."
Avery had a sensational year for Fullerton, nabbing 64 catches for 780 yards and seven touchdowns in only nine games. His play was enough to earn him a couple of visits to FBS schools.
"I visited Akron just a couple of weeks ago, and I almost committed. It felt really good. I was very comfortable, and I liked everything about it. The coaches, the facilities, and the players…I was just really comfortable. But when I came back to Fullerton, my coach convinced me to slow down and take my time. I am glad I did now."
Avery may take another visit before visiting the UK campus. "I may visit San Jose State in early January," Avery said. "But Kentucky said they may have me come out in late January."
Avery is hoping for Boyd to make up his mind soon. "Nothing against that kid, but I sure hope he doesn't choose Kentucky. After I talked with Coach Ortmayer, and I learned about just his background, I could sure see myself playing for that staff. I would love to come and play at Kentucky."
