For the most part, I agree. However, if you had a meal in which you picked up Salmonella and got really sick, then you would be passing it on to the next unfortunate user of your utensils. Not a good thing. This could also include diseases of the mouth. We Americans don't clean our utensils as much as we should even when we wash them, but I'm not going to take the time to sanitize or sterilize my fork just because I ate chili. Conversely, I'd just as soon use a "clean" fork to eat my apple pie. Hmm, I sometimes use utensils my wife or kids have used. Well, anyway . . . .
